PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Professional Development for Music Teachers is available by request. Sample courses available:
| Jazz 101: How to Teach Improvisation was first offered in January 2001 in co-operation with the Manitoba Band Association (M.B.A.). Past participants have commented on how glad they were to take away techniques they could apply immediately in their class rooms, and also how much they appreciated the "hands on" nature of the workshop. This is a 2.5 hour class. An intermediate level course is also available. | |

FESTIVAL ADJUDICATION
Janice Finlay is available for Festival Adjudication. She is a popular choice for adjudication of concert bands, jazz bands and ensembles participating in the Associated Manitoba Arts Festivals around the province. She also adjudicates regularly for the Manitoba Band Association's Solo and Ensemble Festival. In March 2002 and 2007, Janice was thrilled to act as an adjudicator at the Brandon Jazz Festival. Janice's energy, enthusiasm and tactful manner ensure that participants leave the stage feeling proud and inspired. Parents often express their appreciation for the treatment their budding musician receives from Janice, and repeat requests for her adjudicating skills are common.
SUMMER BAND CAMPS for YOUNG PEOPLE
In 2003, Janice joined the faculty of the University of Manitoba Jazz Camp. For information on this program, check www.umanitoba.ca/summer .
Prior to that, Janice was a regular woodwind instructor at the south Winnipeg M.B.A. Summer Band Camp held annually in August at Dakota Collegiate. Students in grades 6 - 9 are invited to participate in a learning opportunity that is great fun and moves most participants' skill level up by about 3 months in just 5 days.
